Why it's important

In order to understand the health of soils under continuous cultivation using organic versus chemical inputs, a survey was conducted in different states, where farmers were selected who had been practicing chemical, or organic methods under different crops for at least 5 years, or more.

The table shows the result: chemical agriculture has led to a decrease in soil nutrients, which translates into a decrease in the nutritional content of our foods. Desertification is linked to the fact that organic matter is not returned to the soil. Living soils are the largest reservoir of water and nutrients.
